34. Miya Jima, Otorii Gate
Just across from Hiroshima is another sacred area, this time an island but, it too has a mountain. This is the floating gate and it is considered one of the three best sites in Japan to see. The gate does not really float, it only appears to at high tide. This island has a number of Shinto Shrines and Buddhist Temples. You take a cable car up the mountain to see a colony of wild monkeys.
