This was the only sane way to get to the top although you can walk. The charge for the easy way is about $18 each person and there are two cable cars to take. Most people go to see the deer and the monkeys. Deer are sacred in Japan. At one time, you could be executed if you killed one. In Nara, the deer will bow to you if you raise your hand but not here or in other cities. No one really knows why.
